Forest Europe publishes the State of Europes Forest's 2025 report

20 / 04 / 2026

FOREST EUROPE has published the State of Europe’s Forests 2025 (SoEF 2025) report, a key reference publication providing an overview of the status, management, and use of forest resources in Europe. The document is based on harmonized data provided by signatory countries and internationally agreed indicators for sustainable forest management.

As the sixth edition of the report, SoEF 2025 is a valuable tool for policymakers, the research community, and sector stakeholders, offering a common basis for analyzing trends, emerging challenges, and the evolution of European forests in an increasingly demanding environmental and socio-economic context.

In the foreword, Mr. Peter Kullgren, Sweden’s Minister for Rural Affairs and current Chair of FOREST EUROPE, expresses his hope that this sixth edition will support constructive, fact-based dialogue and foster collaboration among countries, policymakers, forest owners and managers, scientists, academia, and other stakeholders both within and beyond the forestry sector—ensuring that forests continue, now and in the future, to fulfill their ecological, economic, and social functions.

The report is a joint effort of FOREST EUROPE signatories, their monitoring and statistical experts, and the pan-European data collection developed in cooperation with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe and FAO. It has been prepared by the European Forest Institute (EFI), reinforcing its technical robustness and the comparability of data at the pan-European level.

Published every five years, the SoEF contributes to monitoring sustainable forest management in Europe and to the debate on the continent’s key forestry priorities. For USSE and its partners, the report provides a particularly valuable basis for addressing issues such as climate adaptation, forest resilience, fire risk, and the role of the bioeconomy in the future of the sector.

The report is available on the FOREST EUROPE website:
