USSE closely follows the 10th Ministerial Conference of Forest Europe in Stockholm

21 / 04 / 2026

The 10th Forest Europe Ministerial Conference, to be held in Stockholm (Sweden) on June 2–3, will bring together ministers from signatory countries to address key priorities of pan-European forest policy. The Conference will offer a unique opportunity for the future of sustainable forest management in Europe and for advancing political debate on forestry, enabling the sharing of national perspectives and showcasing progress in sustainable forest management. It will also provide an opportunity to learn from others, gain new scientific insights, and engage in dialogue on regional and cross-border cooperation.

As an observer organization of FOREST EUROPE, the Union of Foresters of Southern Europe (USSE) closely follows this process, which is one of the main pan-European frameworks for dialogue and cooperation in forestry. Within this framework, principles, criteria, and indicators guiding sustainable forest management in Europe are defined, influencing the development of policies and regulatory initiatives at the European level.

“For USSE, monitoring this process is particularly important, as it helps ensure that the needs and specific characteristics of forest owners in Southern Europe are taken into account in areas such as climate change adaptation, forest ecosystem resilience, and fire risk management,” said Leire Salaberria, Managing Director of the organization.

FOREST EUROPE is a high-level voluntary political process that promotes dialogue, intersectoral cooperation, and cross-border collaboration on forests and forestry in Europe. Its objective is to strengthen sustainable forest management (SFM) across the pan-European region and provide appropriate responses to key forest policy challenges.

Under Sweden’s presidency, Forest Europe’s work is currently focused on two main priorities: continuing to promote sustainable forest management and maintaining its criteria and indicators (C&I) as a benchmark for policy design and forest management; and ensuring its stability as a voluntary high-level pan-European forest policy process, including discussions on possible solutions to secure its financial and political stability beyond 2027.
