USSE strengthens collaboration with the Syndicat des Sylviculteurs du Sud-Ouest in response to European forestry challenges

20 / 04 / 2026

On February 10, the Board meeting of the Syndicat des Sylviculteurs du Sud-Ouest (SYSSO) took place, with the participation of Bruno Laffon, President of USSE. During the meeting, USSE’s main lines of work were presented, along with key ongoing European initiatives and legislative dossiers impacting the forestry sector. SYSSO highly valued USSE’s work, emphasizing its usefulness in conveying the priorities of Southern European forest owners at the EU level, and reaffirmed its interest in strengthening this representation in Brussels.

The Syndicat des Sylviculteurs du Sud-Ouest, a USSE partner, represents private forest owners in southwestern France, mainly in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region—one of Europe’s leading forest regions, with strong specialization in maritime pine. SYSSO plays a key role in defending forest owners’ interests, providing technical advice, and promoting active and sustainable forest management, while also contributing to the economic development of the forestry and wood value chain in the region.

The meeting highlighted the importance of continuing to strengthen alliances between representative organizations in Southern Europe, in a context marked by shared challenges such as climate adaptation, increasing forest fire risk, and the implementation of new European regulations. For USSE, cooperation with partners such as SYSSO is essential to convey the priorities and specificities of Southern European territories to EU institutions and to contribute to forest policies better adapted to their reality.
