First meeting of the "Forest and Forestry Stakeholder Platform"

On September 11, USSE attended the first meeting of the Forest and Forestry Stakeholder Platform in Brussels, convened by the European Commission, which on July 11 accepted the association's candidacy to become a member of this group.

The "Forest and Forestry Stakeholder Platform" is made up of a group of experts including representatives of forest owners' and managers' organizations, environmental non-governmental organizations, industry, academia and civil society in general. Created by the Directorates General for Agriculture and Rural Development and Environment of the European Commission, this platform replaces the Civil Dialogue Group on Forestry and Cork and the Group on Forests and Nature of the European Commission, of which the USSE was already a member.

The purposes for which the European Commission has created this tool are to discuss forestry policy issues and to advise the Commission services (DG Agriculture and Rural Development, DG Environment and DG Climate Action) in the implementation of the EU Forestry Strategy 2030.

Leire Salaberria, general director of the USSE, states that "we will contribute to this group with all the knowledge and experience of the technical and expert profiles of the forest owners' associations that make up the group and who have first-hand knowledge of the terrain and our forests and their peculiarities".
