Don’t miss the 2012 forest events!
Even if the International Year of Forest ended in 2011, 2012 is guaranteed to be even more important for the European forest policies. At international scale, the Summit Rio+20 is the much-talked-about event of 2012. At pan-european level, it’s in this year when will start the negotiations for a Legally Binding Agreement for the Forests in Europe. In parallel, it will be also the beginning of the new FOREST EUROPE cycle in Madrid. In the European Union, this year will be marked by the negotiations on the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), the new Plant Health Regime, and the revision of the Forestry Strategy. Additionally, the forest management could be taken into account in the European policy for Climate Change (LULUCF) and criteria on the sustainability of forest biomass could be created as well. All those initiatives are in the line with the EU Strategy for a low carbon economy, where the European forests and forestry should have an important role to play.
We prepared a long list, but not exhaustive, of the main events that will be held all around the world and in Europe.
You can also participate to most of those processes in writing. The public consultations are one of the tools to do it. Those published by the European Commission are available on its website “Your voice in Europe”. The consultations related to forestry and the forest sector are in the USSE website.
You can find all those information in the USSE Newsletter nº15 January 2012 (ES FR).

The USSE is an European Economic Interest Group (AEIE), founded in 1989, which integrates different associations of forest owners in southern Europe, including 3 Portuguese associations, 7 Spanish associations, 2 French ones and one Greek, and it has a close relationship with regional owners and national associations throughout Europe. USSE members are regionally based organizations with broad and rooted knowledge of forestry at local level, market structures and attitudes of forest owners who work in regions, communities or Southern European countries that are part of the European Union.
From this unique force, it aims to develop and unify forestry in different regions, eliminating barriers to achieve broad cooperation and the setting of an integrated, transparent and efficient forest market,
